A mainframe is a high-performance computer supporting multiple users at the same time. It is used for large-scale computing. The machine is highly reliable, available and secured. These are quite expensive machines. These machines can often run for years without any interruption. ; ; ; ; Mainframes are used by big organizations banks, financial institutions (e.g. Insurance companies), retail sector, travel industry etc.
