What is the main difference between mainframe COBOL and Micro Focus COBOL? Please let me know ASAP, if any budy knows...
What is it you Really want to know? I'm sure you have an idea, but you have not said . . .
There are at least 23,000 differences between the products. Not counting that one is written by Micro Focus and the most used mainframe compiler is written by IBM.
I mean is there any coding style ( Like statements, Keyword, supporting Functionalities) difference between IBM Mainframe COBOL and Micro Focus COBOL. I believe there is no coading difference in between Microfocus COBOL and Mainframes COBOL.
There could be coding differences. This can depend on whether the "new" programs are to run on the same system as the "old" ones (by compiler used).
Once upon a time (1994ish) i was project lead to convert an entire application inventory from MVS to UNIX. For COBOL on the UNIX system, we used Micro-Focus COBOL. IIRC, we changed no Procedure code, only SELECT/ASSIGN and FD statements.
At the time, MF-COBOL had "things" not supported on the mainframe, but it was no concern as they couldn't have been used
